HOUSE BILL 219
AN ACT relative to the assignment of judges to hear cases in the superior, district, and probate courts.
ANALYSIS
This bill permits the chief justice of the supreme court to assign superior, district, and probate court judges to hear cases in any of the 3 lower courts, upon consultation with the administrative judges of the affected courts.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Three
AN ACT relative to the assignment of judges to hear cases in the superior, district, and probate courts.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 Superior Court; Assignment of Judges. Amend RSA 491:3-a to read as follows:
491:3-a Assignment of Judges. After assessing caseload needs and requirements and consulting with the administrative judges, the chief justice of the supreme court may assign any superior court judge to hear cases in the district court or the probate court.
2 New Section; District Court; Assignment of Judges. Amend RSA 502-A by inserting after section 3-b the following new section:
502-A:3-c Assignment of Judges. After assessing the caseload needs and requirements and consulting with the administrative judges, the chief justice of the supreme court may assign any district court judge to hear cases in the superior court or the probate court.
3 New Section; Probate Court; Assignment of Judges. Amend RSA 547 by inserting after section 2-a the following new section:
547:2-b Assignment of Judges. After assessing the caseload needs and requirements and consulting with the administrative judges, the chief justice of the supreme court may assign any probate court judge to hear cases in the superior court or the district court.
4 Effective Date. This act shall take effect January 1, 2004.
