AN ACT relative to the accuracy of information used by consumer reporting agencies.

ANALYSIS

This bill requires consumer reporting agencies to ensure the accuracy of the social security number and last name of the individual who is the subject of the consumer report.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Three

AN ACT relative to the accuracy of information used by consumer reporting agencies.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Paragraph; Consumer Credit Reporting; Compliance Procedures; Accuracy of Individual's Social Security Number and Name. Amend RSA 359-B:7 by inserting after paragraph II the following new paragraph:

III. Under no circumstances shall a consumer reporting agency include information concerning an individual whose social security number is not identical to that of the individual to whom the report relates, or whose last name is not a close match, unless the agency has strong reason to believe that the individual has supplied incorrect information.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect January 1, 2005.
