AN ACT relative to the qualifications for the property tax exemption for the disabled.
ANALYSIS
This bill allows towns to extend the property tax for the disabled to persons who qualify for federal or state total and permanent disability retirement, or who show sufficient proof of disability as certified by a physician.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Three
AN ACT relative to the qualifications for the property tax exemption for the disabled.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 Exemption for the Disabled; Qualifications. Amend RSA 72:37-b, I to read as follows:
I. Upon its adoption by a city or town as provided in RSA 72:37-c, any person who is eligible under Title II or Title XVI of the federal Social Security Act for benefits to the disabled, or who qualifies for and receives a total and permanent disability retirement allowance from the federal government or a state or local government retirement plan, or who shows sufficient proof of disability certified by a physician, shall receive a yearly exemption in an amount to be chosen by the town or city.
2 Application. A town or city which adopted the exemption under RSA 72:37-b prior to its amendment by this act, shall be required to adopt the provisions for the exemption for the disabled as amended by this act, according to the procedure in RSA 72:37-c.
3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
