STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Four
A RESOLUTION designating a Purple Heart Trail in New Hampshire.
Whereas, the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the USA in the state of New Hampshire desires to promote the principles and objectives of patriotism, history, and education among the people of the state of New Hampshire; and
Whereas, these principals and objectives of the order can be expressed through perpetuating the ideals and heritage fostered by George Washington, who, as the general commanding the Military Forces of America during the War of the Revolution, established and awarded the Purple Heart decoration; and
Whereas, General George Washington came to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1789 to recognize the sacrifices of New Hampshire citizens during the War of the Revolution; and
Whereas, it has long been a practice to honor our state heroes and patriots by naming state landmarks for them; and
Whereas, there is an opportunity for the citizens of New Hampshire to honor both living and deceased combat wounded veterans of all wars who are recipients of the Purple Heart Medal, an award established by General George Washington on August 7, 1782; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
That the portion of New Hampshire Route 4 from the Lebanon border due east, southeast, to the junction of Interstate 95, and the entire length of Interstate 95 in New Hampshire are hereby designated as the Purple Heart Trail, in honor of General George Washington and the combat wounded veterans awarded the Purple Heart Medal; and
That the department of transportation shall place appropriate markers indicating the designation of this route as the Purple Heart Trail.
