AN ACT relative to providing bank account balance information.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Six
AN ACT relative to providing bank account balance information.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 New Section; Bank Account Balance Display Option. Amend RSA 383 by inserting after section 13-a the following new section:
383:13-b Bank Accounts; Display of Balance Optional. All state-regulated financial institutions shall provide the holder of any account in the institution with the option to withhold printing of the account balance on transaction receipts whether issued to the account holder in person, by mail, or by an automated teller machine. The financial institution shall notify new customers of the availability of the option for non-balance transaction receipts and shall notify its existing customers of the option at least annually. The account holder may at any time exercise the option to have his or her transaction receipts show no balance. The financial institution shall not charge a fee for providing or exercising the option for non-balance transaction receipts.
2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
