HOUSE BILL 1380

AN ACT relative to the procedure for amending a birth record.

ANALYSIS

This bill provides that, if a parent’s name has been on the birth record for a year or more, the name shall not be removed without the parent’s consent.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eight

AN ACT relative to the procedure for amending a birth record.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Paragraph; Amendment to Birth Record. Amend RSA 5-C:89 by inserting after paragraph V the following new paragraph:

VI. If a parent’s name has been on the birth record for a year or more, the name of the parent on the birth record shall not be removed or changed without the parent’s consent.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
