In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Nine
AN ACT relative to required training for chiropractors performing spinal manipulation or spinal adjustment.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 New Section; Chiropractic; Spinal Manipulation. Amend RSA 316-A by inserting after section 12 the following new section:
316-A:12-a Spinal Manipulation; Requirements.
I. No person licensed under this chapter shall perform a spinal manipulation or spinal adjustment without first having the legal authority to differentially diagnose and having received a minimum of 400 hours of classroom instruction in spinal manipulation or spinal adjustment and a minimum of 800 hours of supervised clinical training at a facility where spinal manipulation or spinal adjustment is a primary method of treatment. “Spinal manipulation” and “spinal adjustment” mean a method of skillful and beneficial treatment where a person uses direct thrust to move a joint of the patient’s spine beyond its normal range of motion, but without exceeding the limits of anatomical integrity.
II. Violation of this section shall be misconduct and grounds for the board to take disciplinary action under RSA 316-A:22.
2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
