SENATE BILL 198

AN ACT relative to the assessing standards board.

ANALYSIS

This bill adds public members to the assessing standards board and requires that the chairperson of the board not be a senator or house of representatives member.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Nine

AN ACT relative to the assessing standards board.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Assessing Standards Board; Public Membership Increased. Amend RSA 21-J:14-a, II(e) to read as follows:

(e) [Three] Five members of the public appointed by the governor with the consent of the council, none of whom shall be an assessor or a municipal official.

2 Assessing Standards Board; Chairperson. Amend RSA 21-J:14-a, IV to read as follows:

IV. The board shall annually elect a chairperson from among its members, provided that the members from the senate and house of representatives shall not serve as chairperson. The first meeting of the board shall be called by the first-named house member and shall be held within 30 days after the effective date of this section. A chairperson shall be elected from the board's membership at the first meeting and annually thereafter.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
