AN ACT relative to placing vote tallies on town and school district ballots.
AMENDED ANALYSIS
This bill clarifies the ability of governing bodies to voluntarily place vote tallies on a ballot without having a vote of the town requiring them to do so.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Nine
AN ACT relative to placing vote tallies on town and school district ballots.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
2:1 Budget Preparation. Amend RSA 32:5, V-a to read as follows:
V-a. Any town may vote to require that all votes by an advisory budget committee, a town budget committee, and the governing body or, in towns without a budget committee, all votes of the governing body relative to budget items or any warrant articles shall be recorded votes and the numerical tally of any such vote shall be printed in the town warrant next to the affected warrant article. If a town has not voted to require such tallies to be printed in the town warrant next to the affected warrant article, the governing body may do so on its own initiative.
2:2 Use of Official Ballot. Amend RSA 40:13, V-a to read as follows:
V-a. Any town may vote to require that all votes by an advisory budget committee, a town budget committee, and the governing body or, in towns without a budget committee, all votes of the governing body relative to budget items or any warrant articles shall be recorded votes and the numerical tally of any such vote shall be printed in the town warrant next to the affected warrant article. 2:3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
