STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twelve
AN ACT relative to including next-of-kin contact information on a driver’s license.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
44:1 New Section; Next-of-Kin Contact Information. Amend RSA 263 by inserting after section 41 the following new section:
263:41-a Next-of-Kin Contact Information.
I. At the request of the holder of a driver’s license or nondriver’s picture identification card, the department shall accept next-of-kin information for one person, in a format prescribed by the director. One contact telephone number shall be printed on the driver’s license or nondriver’s picture identification card of the person making the request, in a form and location determined by the director.
II. It shall be the sole responsibility of the holder of the driver’s license or nondriver’s picture identification card to notify the department of any necessary change in the next-of-kin information. The holder of a driver’s license or nondriver’s picture identification card shall pay the applicable replacement fee if a change in information necessitates the issuance of a new driver’s license or nondriver’s picture identification card.
44:2 Implementation. The director of the division of motor vehicles shall implement the provisions of RSA 263:41-a, as inserted by section 1 of this act, upon his or her determination that next-of-kin information may be accepted and maintained by the department of safety’s information technology system, but in no event later than July 1, 2014. The director shall provide the date of implementation to the secretary of state and the director of the office of legislative services within 30 days of implementation.
44:3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
