AN ACT relative to placement on school property of a memorial or memorial plaque honoring those who have died during military service.


AMENDED ANALYSIS

This bill permits, with the approval of the school board or by an approved warrant article at the annual school district meeting, the placement of a memorial or a memorial plaque on school property to honor alumni who have died honorably during active duty.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Sixteen

AN ACT relative to placement on school property of a memorial or memorial plaque honoring those who have died during military service.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

77:1 New Section; School Boards; Placement of Memorial or Memorial Plaque on School Property. Amend RSA 189 by inserting after section 18 the following new section:

189:18-a Memorial or Memorial Plaque on School Property. The placement of a memorial or memorial plaque on school property in memory of an alumnus of a junior high school or high school in the district who died honorably during active duty shall require approval from the school board or approval of a warrant article acted upon at the annual school district meeting. The cost for design, manufacture, installation, or maintenance of the memorial shall not be a charge to the state, any municipality, or the school district. This section shall not apply to the addition of names to already existing memorials or to plans for memorials initiated by the municipality or school district.

77:2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
