AN ACT permitting high school students who are members of the armed forces to wear their uniforms at graduation.


AMENDED ANALYSIS

This bill provides that a student shall have the right to wear a dress uniform issued to the student by a branch of the United States armed forces while participating in the graduation ceremony for the student's high school if the student meets certain requirements.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Sixteen

AN ACT permitting high school students who are members of the armed forces to wear their uniforms at graduation.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

32:1 Title. This act shall be known as Brandon's Law.

32:2 New Subdivision; Military Uniforms. Amend RSA 189 by inserting after section 70 the following new subdivision:

Military Uniforms

189:71 Military Uniform. A student shall have the right to wear a dress uniform issued to the student by a branch of the United States armed forces while participating in the graduation ceremony for the student's high school if that student meets the following requirements:

I. The student has fulfilled all of the requirements for receiving a high school diploma in the state of New Hampshire and the school district and is otherwise eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony.

II. The student has completed basic training for and is an active member of a branch of the United States armed forces.

32:3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
