AN ACT relative to the election of chairs of house standing policy committees.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Sixteen

AN ACT relative to the election of chairs of house standing policy committees.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 General Court; House Committee Chairpersons; Election. Amend RSA 14-A:1 to read as follows:

14-A:1 [Vacancy in] Committee [Chairman] Chairpersons.

I. If the office of [chairman of a committee of either branch of the general court] chairperson of a senate committee becomes vacant for any reason at any time after the adjournment of the biennial session and before the dissolution of the general court under the constitution, the [presiding officer of the branch of the general court in which the vacancy occurs] senate president may appoint a [chairman] chairperson to fill the vacancy from among any of the members of the committee in which the vacancy exists.

II. At any time after the adjournment of the biennial session and before the dissolution of the general court under the constitution, the members of the house of representatives appointed to a house standing policy committee may replace the appointed chairperson or fill a vacancy in the office of chairperson by election of a new chairperson from among any of the members of the committee.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
