STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Sixteen

AN ACT requiring public schools to observe New Hampshire constitution day.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Patriotic Exercises; New Hampshire Constitution Day. Amend RSA 189:18 to read as follows:

189:18 Patriotic Exercises. In all public schools of the state one session, or a portion thereof, during the weeks in which Memorial Day and Veterans Day fall, shall be devoted to exercises of a patriotic nature. In all public schools of the state on New Hampshire Constitution Day on June 2, provided that school is in session, teachers shall offer to provide a copy of the New Hampshire state constitution to pupils or otherwise direct them to a version of the New Hampshire state constitution online or held in the library.

2 Proclamation of State Constitution Day. Amend RSA 4:13-c to read as follows:

4:13-c Constitution Days. The governor shall annually issue on the following dates a proclamation calling for a proper observance of State Constitution Day which is [January 5] June 2 and September 17 as Federal Constitution Day, so that the people may be reminded annually on these dates of the blessings of liberty which they enjoy by the adoption of the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the State of New Hampshire.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
