AN ACT prohibiting family members from serving on the same town, city, or school district board or committee.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Seventeen

AN ACT prohibiting family members from serving on the same town, city, or school district board or committee.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Paragraph; Town Elections; Incompatibility of Offices. Amend RSA 669:7 by inserting after paragraph II the following new paragraph:

III.(a) No family members shall serve at the same time on the same town, city, or school district board or committee.

(b) In this paragraph, "family member" means a spouse, biological, foster, or adoptive parent or child, stepparent, stepchild, grandparent, grandchild, legal ward, sibling, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law.

2 New Section; Incompatible Offices. Amend RSA 41 by inserting after section 4 the following new section:

41:4-a Incompatible Offices.

I. In this section, "family member" means a spouse, biological, foster, or adoptive parent or child, stepparent, stepchild, grandparent, grandchild, legal ward, sibling, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law.

II. No family members shall serve at the same time on the same town, city, or school district board or committee.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
