HOUSE BILL 1383

AN ACT prohibiting commercial trucks from left lane travel on multi-lane highways.


ANALYSIS

This bill prohibits certain commercial trucks from traveling in the left lane of a multilane interstate highway or turnpike during certain hours of the day, unless entering or exiting such highway or turnpike from the left lane.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty

AN ACT prohibiting commercial trucks from left lane travel on multi-lane highways.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Rules of the Road; Driving on Right Side of Roadway. Amend RSA 265:16, V to read as follows:

V. No commercial vehicles with 3 or more axles shall travel in the left lane of an interstate highway or turnpike that has 3 or more lanes in the same direction between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., unless such vehicles are entering or exiting such highways or turnpikes from the left lane.

VI. Any person who violates this section shall be guilty of a violation and shall be fined $50 plus penalty assessment.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
