House Resolution No. 12 Honoring the New Hampshire National Guard
Whereas, the New Hampshire National Guard traces its origins to 1623 as a defense of the first settlements near the mouth of the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth; and
Whereas, the New Hampshire National Guard under the leadership of General John Stark, halted the advance of a British column in Bennington, Vermont that prevented a British victory in the war of independence; and,
Whereas, since that time the New Hampshire National Guard has contributed to the defense of the United States in every conflict, both foreign and domestic; and
Whereas, an important mission of the New Hampshire National Guard is supporting the community in times of distress, most notably after 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, droughts, floods, and other natural disasters; and
Whereas, the New Hampshire National Guard has contributed greatly to the State of New Hampshire during the pandemic, at first with mass testing and now with the mass rollout of the vaccines; now, be it therefore
Resolved, that the New Hampshire House of Representatives in regular session convened, hereby offers its thanks to the New Hampshire National Guard and all of its members for their consistent support of their community, state, and nation.
