In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty One
A RESOLUTION reaffirming friendship between New Hampshire and Taiwan, encouraging the enhancement of bilateral trade relations, and supporting Taiwan in the international community.
Whereas, the United States and the Republic of China (Taiwan) share a most important bilateral relationship marked by a mutually beneficial partnership, supported by our common values of freedom, democracy, rule of law, and a free market economy, and our countries now enjoy the strongest relations ever; and
Whereas, the United States ranks as Taiwan’s second largest trading partner, and Taiwan is the tenth largest trading partner of the United States, with bilateral trade in goods and services between the United States and Taiwan amounting to approximately $90,000,000,000 in 2020; and
Whereas, the Taiwan government and private sector donated more than 120,000 surgical masks to New Hampshire to help combat COVID-19, demonstrating that Taiwan can help and is helping; and
Whereas, New England exported more than $1,000,000,000 in goods to Taiwan in which New Hampshire exported $49,000,000 in goods, making Taiwan New Hampshire’s twenty-fifth largest export market in the world; and
Whereas, Taiwan seeks to sign a bilateral trade agreement with the United States which will result in even greater New Hampshire exports to Taiwan, and support more jobs in New Hampshire; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the New Hampshire senate supports a bilateral trade agreement between the United States and Taiwan and encourages the New Hampshire government to further explore ways in which to strengthen and promote bilateral trade between New Hampshire and Taiwan, and
