STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty One

AN ACT establishing a renter's insurance notification requirement.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Section; Renter's Insurance Notification. Amend RSA 540 by inserting after section 28 the following new section:

540:28-a Renter's Insurance Notification. A landlord of a residential rental property that is rented for a duration of longer than one month, shall include within the rental agreement a sentence that informs the tenant that the landlord's insurance does not cover the tenant's belongings from loss or damage and that the landlord recommends that the tenant purchase renter's insurance. The cost of the renter's insurance shall be borne by the tenant if the tenant decides to purchase the insurance. The renter’s insurance notification shall only apply to written rental agreements signed after the effective date of this section.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
