AMENDED ANALYSIS

This bill changes the observance of Gold Star Mother's Day to Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day, observed on the last Sunday in September and designates the Honor and Remember Flag as a state symbol of remembrance for those who died in the line of duty or as a result of service.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Five

AN ACT relative to Gold Star Mother's Day.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

268:1 The State and Its Government; Observances Proclaimed by Governor; Gold Star Mother's Day. Amend RSA 4:13-h to read as follows:

4:13-h Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day.

I. The governor shall annually issue a proclamation calling for the proper observance of the [first Sunday after Easter] last Sunday in September, which shall be known as Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day, recognizing and honoring all mothers and families who have lost sons or daughters while on duty in the United States armed forces. The governor shall urge the citizens of the state, and its cities, towns, and municipalities, to observe this day with appropriate events.

II. The governor shall order the Honor and Remember Flag to be displayed daily at the New Hampshire state veterans cemetery in Boscawen exclusively. The flag shall be flown in the most junior order of precedence. The flag shall be provided at no cost to the state of New Hampshire.

268:2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
