RSA 21-P:3 · Commissioner; Directors; Compensation
21-P:3 Commissioner; Directors; Compensation. – I. The commissioner of the department shall be appointed by the governor, with the consent of the council, and shall serve for a term of 4 years, provided that the first term shall expire on March 31, 1991. The commissioner shall be qualified to hold that position by reason of education and experience. A vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term. II. The commissioner shall nominate each division director for appointment by the governor, with the consent of the council. Each division director shall serve for a term of 4 years. Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term. The directors shall be qualified to hold their respective positions by reason of education and experience. The director of state police shall be a citizen of the United States and shall have had experience in the investigation of crime, criminal prosecution, and in the enforcement of traffic laws at the time of his appointment. III. The salaries of the commissioner and the division directors shall be as specified in RSA 94:1-a. Source. 1987, 124:1, eff. July 1, 1987.
