263:5-c Compliance With Federal Selective Service Requirements. –
Copy linkWhen applying for a driver's license or driver's license renewal, any male United States citizen or immigrant who is at least 18 years of age but less than 26 years of age may authorize the department to register him with the Selective Service System in compliance with the requirements of section 3 of the "Military Selective Service Act", 50 U.S.C. app. section 451 et seq., as amended.
Copy linkThe application form for a driver's license or driver's license renewal shall include a box to check off if the applicant is 18 years of age and wishes to authorize the department to submit the necessary information to the Selective Service System to register the applicant with the Selective Service System in compliance with federal law. The applicant shall not be required to provide his social security number for Selective Service registration purposes. The department shall not release any information pursuant to this section unless the Selective Service System has provided assurance to the department that the Selective Service System shall not transfer to any non-governmental agency any information which the applicant submitted to the department for registration purposes.
Copy linkFailure to authorize Selective Service registration as provided in this section shall not be a basis for denying driving privileges to the applicant.
Copy linkThe commissioner may charge reasonable fees pursuant to RSA 260:14, XIII, for the collection and release of information to the Selective Service System under this section, provided that no such fee shall be charged to the applicant authorizing registration.
